Third Creek Greenway’s fifth event proved to be only for the strong of heart. Seven finishers braved the constant rain and slick course. Puddles and umbrellas added new “scenery” to the course for all participants.
In spite of the weather, there are many performances to celebrate. Four dedicated newcomers came out for their first Third Creek event. These first timers included two athletes from Carson-Newman University, Jasper Wilson and Conal McCambridge, who absolutely shattered the previous course record. They arrived at the finish line in 17:09, with Jasper just edging out Conal by half a second. We hope to see them back for more time trials whenever their track schedule permits.
Karen Lloyd was this week’s female first finisher.. She traversed the 5k in 26:47. This was Karen’s first official parkrun at Third Creek Greenway, though she was one of our very first supporters from our start-up phase. It was great to see her out!
Alex Steward, one of our junior athletes, also ran a personal best of 32:34, cutting off nearly two and a half minutes from his previous time. His dad, Marcus Steward, supported him all the way to the line. parkrun is a great opportunity for families to run together.
On such a rainy day, we are extremely grateful to all of our volunteers who came out to make this possible. Please consider starting your Saturday morning by supporting your fellow walkers, joggers and runners. Volunteer roles at Third Creek Greenway parkrun are easy, fun, and don’t require a lengthy commitment. Typically you’ll get a briefing about roles at 8:45am and be on site until the Tail Walker has crossed the line. Drop us an email at email@example.com to find out more.
Since launching on October 26 2019, Third Creek Greenway parkrun has had 69 individual finishers and had 13 individuals volunteering.
We don’t have an extra event on Thanksgiving, but we’ll be back 9am on Saturday, November 30th to help you run off some of those leftovers… See you there!
