Perrigo #notaparkrun Number 37: 2nd January 2021

Hello 2021 (and Good Riddance, 2020)!

by Kerstin Pepper: Run Director

Well, it was wet and windy, it was cold, it was even snowy in some spots. But at least it was no longer 2020! Can you believe it's been 314 days since we last got together at Perrigo Park? I can't tell you how much we're hoping for a better year ahead, and a chance to gather at the red barn once more.

Well done to all 28 of you who braved the atrocious weather on Saturday, and got your first #notaparkrun of 2021 in the books. We welcomed two first timers, and celebrated one very speedy PB:

First Timers

A very warm welcome to

Scott Wisiniewski - not only his first time at Perrigo's virtual parkrun, but coming in at 8th place, in a very respectable 23:40!

Eric Lynn - getting a good run in with his furry running partner around Juanita Bay, Eric finished in 41:31 at his first #notaparkrun. Look forward to seeing more of you, Eric!

Personal Best

Yet another PB from our own Jordan Elder, finishing his 5k in 22:10. That's an amazing 7:09 minutes / mile - wow! For reference, Jordan's first #notaparkrun was completed in 36:53, meaning he has taken a whopping 14 minutes and 43 seconds off his 5k time in just 8 months. Incredible - many congratulations, Jordan!

Jordan

Special mention must also go to Steve Dancy of Livonia parkrun. Steve achieved a Golden Groundhog this week - that means he achieved the exact same time and finish position on consecutive weeks! Ready to go for the triple this week, Steve?

Steve

We have now had a total of 116 individuals complete one or more #notaparkruns over the past 37 weeks - amazing! Imagine if that number of people turned up for our Comeback Party (you know I'm planning...for whenever it might happen!), and brought a friend. What a celebration that could be!

2020 Accomplishments / 2021 Goals

Thanks to everyone who watched the run brief, and decided to share their goals and accomplishments with us. 2020 clearly wasn't all THAT bad for some of you (as evidenced above!), and we love to hear positive stories and your goals for 2021.

Zach Fung inspired us with his amazing accomplishment of running 368 days in a row (as of Jan 2nd), running at least 2 miles a day...totally 2,800 miles in 2020!

This does not mean taking no rest days. In fact quite the opposite. Doing some running on an off day no matter how slow not only counts for mileage, but also counts for rest recovery for fitness and well being. You may find after getting into this habit for a while your PBs may be easier to come by too

Perrigo #notaparkrun Number 33: 5th December 2020

December!! How did that happen?

by Kerstin Pepper: Run Director

frosty barn

Hi friends. How on earth did we make it to December already? It's now been almost 41 weeks since we last saw you all, as we approach our 34th virtual parkrun! Crazy! Whilst we miss you dreadfully (as I may have mentioned once or twice in my run briefs), I'm so glad we still have this opportunity to catch up each week. It's great to see your pictures, your amazing running achievements, and your encouragement of each other!

Let's keep this ball rolling, and maybe encourage your friends and family (no matter where in the world they may be!) to join us. The more the merrier - there is no better time to focus on our health and fitness, and (more importantly) to have a chance to check in with fellow humans outside of our restricted "bubble"!

I don't know about you, but I love seeing where you all are each week. Whether it's John and Zena Hoegger, rocking their disgusting Hawaii tans (!!), or Joanna Davis making my heart long for the homeland, with her beautiful English village scenes!

Hoeggers

Joanna UK

I must also give a shout out to our own dedicated Canadian, Dean Faber - not only does he show up to Perrigo every Saturday morning ("just in case anyone is there to say hello to"), but he also sends me some great photos of our home-from-home, and is kind enough to help me out with the results each week. Thanks Dean - what would we do without you?

This week, Dean captured great photos of Kevin Sorensen speeding across the (virtual) finish line into 3rd place, and Gayle Keenan running around the track on her 30th #notaparkrun.

Kevin

Gayle

The Lowdown

Well done to all 28 of you who got out there, despite the chill, and got your 5k done! We saw two PBs this week, appropriately enough in 1st and 2nd place on our results table:

Cole Wisniewski crossed the line in a super speedy 21:07 at only his 3rd #notaparkrun. That's an incredible pace of 6:48 min / mile! The competition between the Livonia parkrun gang was clearly fierce, because Cole was closely followed by....

Steve Dancy - finishing his 30th #notaparkrun in an equally impressive 21:39 (6:58 min / mile pace), Steve has set the bar pretty high for us all in 2021!! Well done you guys, we love seeing your fun posts each week!

Photo Roundup

As always, thank you for sending in your selfies and scenic snaps - they truly are a joy!
Here are a few of your inspirational pics:

Happy birthday, Zoe Muggeson Heath!!! Thanks for sharing your special day with us - love love love the lippy!!

Zoe birthday

Congrats on upping your distance this week, Jordan Elder. You are getting faster and stronger every day, we love seeing your progress!

Jordan

I feel like Abby Reulas almost needs a blog post of her own. How many miles have you run this year now, Abby? A quick Strava check reveals 2,197 miles - that's an average of 6.35 miles EVERY SINGLE DAY of 2020. Can you imagine having the motivation to run more than a 10k every day, of this car crash of a year? There's our baseline for 2021. Gulp....

Abby

Happy trails everyone. Stay in touch, stay well, stay distant. See you all again on Saturday!

Trail

All the best,

Kerstin

Perrigo #notaparkrun Number 30: 14th November 2020

The One Where We Finally Wrote a Run Report

redbarn

Firstly, I must apologise for the dearth of run reports lately. I have absolutely no excuse, other than a growing degree of apathy and far too much time spent "doom-scrolling"...or sitting on my children's bedroom floors, imploring them to PLEASE sit through just one more Teams class!

For anyone else in our wonderful community who is feeling a little jaded, deflated, or "can't be bothered"ed....we hear you! Always remember that parkrun is a family, and we are here for you. Send us your rants, your vents, your OMGs....and we will, in turn, send you our warmest elbow bumps and air high fives!

And without further ado....the results are in!! Many congrats (and happy Diwali to all our Indian friends!) to the 30 #notparkrunners who took part in our 30th #notaparkrun on November 14th. How serendipitous! Well done, you guys - we are so very proud of you all for showing up each week!

We had one PB this week:

Jordan Elder - can we just pause and have a round of applause for Jordan at this point? In 28 short weeks (he was 2 weeks late to the #notaparkrun party), Jordan has progressed from a 36:53 5k (that's an 11:54 min/mile pace) to an incredible 22:27 (7:15 min/mile pace). Jordan has stoically shown up for 25 our of our 30 virtual parkruns, and the results speak for themselves. Absolutely amazing - we doff our hats to you!

Jordan

With that being said, I would also like to acknowledge all our amazing dedicated souls who have been with us from the beginning, and shown up week in, week out, to all 30 #notaparkruns. Massive kudos and gratitude to you, for your unwavering support and encouragement!

Joanna Davis - Jo joined us from Melton Mowbray parkrun, after our (literally) 5 seconds of fame in their awesome BBC news segment. Like Jordan, Jo just seems to get faster and faster each week - she has gone from an already impressive 25:07 5k (08:06 min/mile) to a PB of 22:42 (07:19 min/mile). We are in awe!

Dean Faber - part of our core team, and a master of chalked encouragements, Dean has stuck with parkrun through thick and thin! We are so grateful to him for his unwavering support, his Canadian handiness, and his endless optimism (though he refers to himself as a grumpy old man, nothing could be further from the truth!).

Zena Hoegger - Oh, Zena, what can we say? If ever you need a supportive friend, Zena is your gal! Always the first to show up in costume (whether it's a themed parkrun day or not!), with her wonderful family in tow, and the most disgustingly positive attitude you'll ever be lucky enough to meet...we are so grateful to have you (and your sister!) as part of our parkrun / #notaparkrun family!

    ZenaJohn

Lynn Perrse - hot on the heels of Zena, comes her equally amazing sister, Lynn. Based in Long Eaton, UK, Lynn not only runs 5k with us each week, but she even shows up for the run brief! Thanks so much for all your support Lynn - we can't wait until these dark days are over, and we can welcome you back to Perrigo in person! Also...more selfies please, Lynn!

Zoe Muggeson Heath - good friends and running buddy with Lynn (see the pattern here? I told you parkrun was an amazing community!), Zoe has also shown awesome dedication to our #notaparkrun from afar! It's been so great getting to know you, Zoe - we look forward to the day we can welcome you to the red barn in real life!

Photo Roundup

Thank you so much to all of you who continue to send in your selfies and scenic shots. In these strange socially distanced days, it's the best way we have of keeping up with your lives and your smiling faces - we really appreciate it!

Until next time...stay safe, stay distanced, and pull on those masks. We will get through this, together!

Run Report: Virtual parkrun #18 – 22nd August 2020

by Kerstin Pepper: Run Director

My gosh, can you believe it's now been 25 weeks since we had our last "real" parkrun? At the time, I remember we thought we'd be on pause for a couple of weeks...and now look at us, with no end in sight?

I know it's hard to stay motivated, particularly as the weather cools down and many of us find ourselves busy again with work, homeschooling and a return to reality after the long summer. But remember - we are still here for you, every Saturday morning at 9am. If you're struggling to get out there and put in the miles, I recommend finding a running buddy. Not a big group, but one person that maybe you've been seeing a fair amount of over the last few months anyway. I don't know about you, but I do find that the fear of letting someone else down far outweighs my desire to sit on the couch eating chips. Just. :)

runbuddycrop

Kudos to the 29 of you who ran/walked/jogged your 5k on Saturday - not only did we welcome a new first timer, we also celebrated another 7 impressive PBs!

First Timers

We'd like to extend a very warm welcome to first timer, Craig Ashley. Dad and Husband to our regulars, Ryan and Aimee, it's great to see the Ashley contingent of #notaparkrun growing! Craig finished in a very impressive 25:45, so he has already set the bar high for those future PRs. We'll look forward to seeing more of you (and your selfies!) in the coming weeks, Craig!

Personal Bests

Congratulations to the following seven #notparkrunners who achieved impressive PBs this week:

Danielle Ruiz - no stranger to parkrun, Danielle gets faster each week. She beat last week's best by 8 seconds, to finish in 24:56 this week, her 10th #notaparkrun. Nice work!

Danielle

Jordan Elder - another #notaparkrun regular, Jordan knocked a whopping 1:21 off his previous PB, at his 14th virtual event, to finish in 25:12. Excellent job, Jordan!

Jordan

Abby Ruelas - hailing from Renton parkrun, Abby has dedicated her entire summer to running, and it shows! Yet another PB at her 16th #notaparkrun, Abby knocked an impressive 1:09 off her previous time, finishing in 26:27. Congratulations, Abby - your new go-faster shoes are clearly working!

Abby

Wendy Grinols-Sweeney - another Rentonite (is that a word? It is now!) and Abby's faithful running buddy (see? Everybody needs one!), Wendy took 13 seconds off her PB, finishing in 26:58 at her 10th #notaparkrun. Great job!

Wendy

Belinda Blackburn - a Tasmania native, Belinda has set a new PB at every #notaparkrun she has completed! This week, she knocked a very respectable 40 seconds off, finishing in 29:15. Great result - all we need now is a matching selfie.

Elliott Gaskins - another Perrigo parkrun regular, but only his second #notaparkrun, Elliott took an amazing 7:12 off his previous time. If only we had a photo, we'd know your secret - instead, we'll just have to assume that Rocky had something to do with it (yes, friends - running buddies can be 4-legged, too!).

Bill Schwabenland - last, but most definitely not least, Bill achieved a PB for the 2nd week in a row (at his 15th #notaparkrun), finishing 54 seconds faster than last week, in 32:00. I'm not one to make wild assertions, but I'm going to go ahead and suggest that maybe a certain wild beast on the trail had something to do with putting a spring in Bill's step!
Bill bear

Nerd Alert!

It's OK, he called himself the nerd, so it's fine for me to say the same about our speed demon, Dan Metteer. He tells us that he has been working on a 5k predictor formula. I won't pretend to understand it, but wouldn't it be cool to use to figure out your future race or parkrun times? Maybe once he's ironed out any kinks, Dan might be kind enough to share his genius with the rest of us!

"I was about 50 seconds off of my PB. In the two weeks leading up to that PB I ran about 50 more miles than I did in the past two weeks. Other factors certainly apply, but it is interesting how close this formula holds up!"

Photo Roundup

In the absence of any other news to share, I thought I'd finish with our weekly photo roundup. Thanks so much to everyone who shared either selfies or beautiful photos of your local running spot. And Finally...

Thank you again to everyone who took part this week. Next week marks exactly half a year since we celebrated our last parkrun, on Leap Day no less! We are so grateful for this community, and the support you all offer us and each other. There is no more important thing right now than our relationships with friends and family, and I'm so very proud of our dedicated parkrun family for keeping all our spirits high.

Don't forget to let me know if you fancy a spot as Run Director one week!

Until the 29th.... toodle-oo!!

Run Report: Virtual parkrun #17 – 15th August 2020

by Kerstin Pepper: Run Director

IMG_7754

We had a smaller than usual number of participants for #notaparkrun number SEVENTEEN, with 25 of you heading out into the beautiful sunny August morning for your 5k run / jog / walk / crawl.

It was lovely for me to be able to do my run brief from the red barn again, and thanks to the sunny weather, to be joined by so many of you lovely regulars.

First Timers

For the first time, we had NO first timers this week!! You know that that means....? That's right, it's time to spread the word again. I believe that the whole Covid quarantine situation has created quite a few couch potatoes (myself included), particularly with all the gyms being closed or severely restricted, and home gym equipment being about as impossible to find as toilet paper and bleach was 5 months ago. So please do tell your friends, family, neighbors etc that are here for them. Why pay $35 for a virtual run, when you can join our friendly little Perrigo parkrun family for FREE each week?

Personal Bests

Congratulations to the EIGHT #notparkrunners who achieved a PB this week. That's an amazing 32% of you who have seen improvement, week after week. Kudos to you guys - well done!

Kevin Sorensen - probably one of the most consistent runners I know, Kevin's slowest and fastest #notaparkrun times differ by only 15 seconds. This week, he knocked 3 seconds off his previous PB, finishing in 21:49, and second place.
Kurt Wilson - our friendly Melton Mowbray visitor, and no stranger to the Groundhog award, Kurt knocked 7 seconds off his fastest, finishing his 5k in a super speedy 22:56. Nice work, Kurt!
Mike Williams - another Melton Mowbray regular, Mike gets faster and faster every week (the competition is strong between him and parkrun buddy Kurt!). This week he knocked an amazing 01:17 off his previous fastest #notaparkrun, his 12th time joining us at Perrigo.
Wendy Grinols-Sweeney - Wendy and running buddy Abby Ruelas have been running up a storm lately, accumulating some pretty impressive mileage! All that hard work and dedication is clearly paying off, with Wendy taking 42 seconds off her previous best, at her 9th virtual parkrun.
Gayle Keenan - I think we narrowly missed witnessing Gayle achieve a PB of 29:30 (16 seconds faster than her previous record) at the red barn this week, for her 15th #notaparkrun. Hopefully next time we can (distantly) cheer her on in person!
Bill Schwabenland - Bill took a very impressive 01:32 off his previous best, at his 14th #notaparkrun. Impressive stuff after all these weeks!
Evie Pepper - congrats to Evie for taking a whopping 05:11 off your previous time, at your second #notaparkrun. Hope we can persuade you to take part more often, my dear.
Melani McGrath - apparently without buddy Murphy tagging along to sniff every blade of grass along the way, Melani gets her 5k finished a lot faster! Congrats on taking 03:03 off your previous PB, Melani.

A Few Reminders

    - Don't forget that we are still in Phase 2 in King County. So for all you non-UK folk, I do have to encourage you to run distantly, mask up if you see anyone else on the trail, and use common sense (i.e. if you arrive at a park to find it full of picnickers / sunbathers, maybe choose an alternative running location). I want you all to stay safe and healthy, and for our little corner of the world to regain some normalcy so we all get to hang out on a Saturday morning together again!

    - Bored on a Saturday morning and wondering how you can find some purpose? :) Consider volunteering as Run Director for our #notaparkrun. I'm sure you're all bored of seeing my face every week - let me know via Facebook or perrigo@parkrun.com if you fancy taking on the mantle, and I'll let you know what (very little) is involved!

    - Don't forget that Cypress Coffee is now open at Redmond Ridge, and they're doing an amazing job of ensuring customers are well distanced, both indoors and out. If you can, please consider supporting them with your custom - they have been super encouraging and supportive of parkrun over the last year, and we'd hate to see Ryan and his team struggle.

    - And finally, even though we publish our own Perrigo results each week, you are also able to upload your results to the official parkrun website. It won't count towards your milestones, unfortunately, but it does mean you can keep all your results in one place on your own profile. This is entirely optional, but if you would like to do so, go to parkrun.com/signin. Enter your barcode number and password, and on your profile page, click on "(not)parkrun" to log your virtual parkrun results.

Run Report: Virtual parkrun #16 – 8th August 2020

IMG_7573

by Kerstin Pepper: Run Director

Well, it was certainly not the most appealing running weather last Saturday. Cold, wet and grey - a typical Seattle summer's day, and only Dean Faber, myself and my Loki dog braved the elements at the red barn at 9am! Despite that, we saw 26 parkrunners completing their 5k for our 16th #notaparkrun, including:

First Timers

Only one first timer this week. No stranger to "actual" parkrun, but a newbie to our virtual events. We hope to see a lot more of you, Elliot Gaskins - we've missed you and Rocky!

117104329_10157594854836687_5184092061991300651_n

Personal Bests

Many congrats to our three #notparkrunners celebrating PBs this week. I am beyond inspired by those of you who are managing to not only keep up with your physical fitness during these strange times, but actually improve it!! I'll be calling you for tips on how to budge the Covid-15 soon enough...

Zach Fung managed to steal the coveted top spot from our stalwart, Dan Metteer. Not only did Zach finish in an incredible 17:41, he took a huge 19 seconds off his previous #notaparkrun PB! Nice work, Zach (please send more selfies!). :)

Danielle Ruiz took a magnificent second off her previous PB, at her 9th #notaparkrun, finishing in 24:56. The crazy thing is, Danielle is always telling me she's "not fast". Yeah. Right. Pull the other one, speed demon! Many congrats - we miss your always smiling face!!

Drum roll pleeeease, for the fabulous Zena Hoegger, who achieved an amazing PB of 27:59 at her 16th #notaparkrun. That's right folks - not only is Zena enviably fast, she's also one of the few who has shown up every single week since we started this crazy online dalliance. Nice job, Zena - we miss you and your whacky wardrobe!

Danielle

Zena

The Groundhog!

We had yet another Groundhog this week. I don't know what is going on - I honestly don't remember having one at all previously, but #notaparkrun seems to have a few of you staying unbelievably consistent!

This week, Abby Ruelas matched her previous PB of 27:36. Although not strictly a groundhog, as there were 6 weeks between them, I'm choosing to celebrate Abby's dedication regardless, mainly because she shares such awesome selfies every week. Nice work, Abby - Punxsutawney Phil ain't got nothing on you!

Run Report: Virtual parkrun #12 – 11th July 2020

by Kerstin Pepper: Run Director

Well, I think a lot of us were beaten by the heat this week, as we saw a relatively small crowd of 32 diehard not-parkrunners out pounding the pavement. Many congrats to our 4 speedy PB achievers, a warm welcome to our first timer, Amy Crandall (no stranger to parkrun, but a newcomer to #notaparkrun), and yet another “wow” for our Groundhog, Melton Mowbray’s own Kurt Wilson.

KurtMike

Personal Bests

Big shout out to Dan Metteer’s daughter, Katie Metteer, who took a huge 1 minute 25 seconds off her previous time, for a 2nd PB at her 3rd #notaparkrun. The apple clearly doesn’t fall far from the tree – great work, Katie!

Melton Mowbray’s Joanna Davis marked yet another PB this week, taking 9 seconds off her already very impressive previous best. Joanna is one of our “old faithfuls”, who has shown up every single week since we start our virtual parkruns, and celebrated 7 PBs out of 12 runs. Inspiring stuff – we’re so glad to see you every week, Joanna!

Well done to Bushra Bajwa, who took 5 seconds off her previous time, at only her 2nd #notaparkrun.

Congratulations to Amanda Nathan, who took a huge two and a half minutes off her previous PB! Nice job, Amanda.

KatieDan

Milestones

Thank you so much to everyone who indulged my request for milestone numbers.

Only two parkrunners would have earned a shirt if they had attended Perrigo every week for the last 19 weeks since we last met in person.

Amanda Nathan would be wearing her red 50 shirt by now, with 62 parkruns under her belt

Lynn Persse would be sporting that coveted black 100 shirt, having completed 103 parkruns.

Lynn

Congratulations ladies – we are so very proud of your dedication, and only wish we could get those shirts winging their way to you!

Two other dedicated parkrunners would be earning their milestones at the next parkrun:

Dean Faber is one run away from a black shirt, with 99 runs completed (and attendance at every single #notaparkrun so far)

Ryan Ashley would be earning his white 10 shirt, as he speeds his way to a faster and faster 5k each week!

Thanks to the rest of you who are also racking up those runs:

    Gayle Keenan (26)
    Aimee Ashley (13)
    Abby Ruelas (75)
    Zena Hoegger (38)

AimeeRyan

You’re all amazing – I’m so happy that you are all keeping up with your health and fitness while the world falls apart around us. There is no better way to ensure that you and your loved ones get through this strange time!

Selfie Time

As always, a huge thank you to everyone who continues to send me your beautiful selfies (and particularly the ones taken at Perrigo Park, which make me feel a little closer to “actual” parkrun).

MikeKurt

I genuinely love seeing your happy, healthy, sweaty faces – I love our parkrun community and the friendships that continue to blossom. Rest assured that I am using this time to dream up the biggest return to parkrun celebration I can think of!!

And Another Thing….

Unfortunately it looks like WA state is far from beating this virus, and in fact it seems we are sliding into a worse situation than we have been before. As we encourage you to get outside and stay healthy, it is also our responsibility to ensure that we are protecting the health of our fellow community members.

When you are out #notparkrunning, please do make sure you always have a mask or face covering with you. You do not need to wear it at all times, but it is important to have it available in case you come across another path / trail / park user. Thank you to this week's tailwalker, Kelly Lyon-King for so beautifully modeling the ideal runner’s face covering – these buffs work really well, they’re so easy to pull up and down quickly without breaking stride.

Kelly

Let’s continue to mask up, stay distant and wash our hands. I really, really, really want to start planning that Perrigo party!!!

In the very wise words of Jerry Springer himself: until next time, take care of yourselves…and each other.

Run Report: Virtual parkrun #11 – 4th July 2020

by Mary Blake: Run Director

Who needs fireworks?

Our 4th of July #notaparkrun was better than any fireworks in my opinion, because we had a record number of runners participate. 46, yes 46!!, runners came out to celebrate the 4th of July the way it was meant to be celebrated. With a free virtual 5K! So many of you got into the spirit of things and gave us some great “red, white & blue” photos! Our participants came from all over the world, including the UK (Melton Mowbray, Livonia, Dishley & Long Eaton), South Africa, California, Tucson & Rock Creek Trail parkrun in Portland.

PBs

We had 11 PBs, which is an incredible number. Well done to Mike Williams, Shawn Pearce, Nina Tang, Ryan Ashley, Simon Faber, Lee Nathan, Zoe Muggeson Heath, Wendy Grinols-Sweeney, Lynn Persse, Katie Metteer & Lynzee Hoegger on your PBs. A fantastic achievement for each and every one of you!

First timers

We would love to extend a warm welcome to our 6 first timers. We are so glad that you joined us Zach Fung, Joy Chan, Nick Shiach, Bushra Bajwa, Vivian Shiach & Lucas Smith! We hope to see more of you all at #notaparkrun, and eventually at parkrun!

Zach & Joy

Fastest runners

Congratulations to our 3 fastest males. Coming in at an amazingly fast 18 minutes flat, was first timer Zach Fung. Hot on Zach’s heels was Dan Metteer with an impressive 19:17. Next came Max Jensen absolutely crushing it with a 20:32. Well done guys!

Congratulations to our 3 fastest females. Joanna Davis absolutely killed it with a time of 23:35. First timer Joy Chan started her #notaparkrun career with a super impressive 24:29. Our 3rd fastest female was parkrun volunteer regular, Nina Tang, with a very respectable 26:28, which was also a PB – Go Nina!

Nina Tang

Die-hards

Highly deserving of a mention are our runners who have participated in 11 for 11! Joanna Davis, Michael Shiach, Zoe Muggeson Heath, Lynn Persse, Dean Faber, Bill Schawbenland & Zena Hoegger – thank you all for participating each and every week and being a huge factor in #notaparkrun’s success!

Zena & the girls

4th of July festive wear

Since a bunch of you made such fun efforts to be patriotic, I think you all deserve a mention!
Zena, thank you so much for donning the fun patriotic bobble hairbands. It has to be done and you make them look HOT!

I think it’s only fair to pick a winner for the best “red, white & blue” outfit. Zach & Joy, you guys pulled off athletic and patriotic together so beautifully!

Zoe, you just can’t beat those leggings! I want them!! No seriously, where did you get them? LOL.

Joanna, your picture of the red, white & blue flowers was so sweet and creative!
Fairies Abby & Wendy, your patriotic wings were so pretty and awesome!

Fred & Louise, that hat, the hairband and the decorated doggy stroller were so fun and your photo had me smiling all day!

Nina, your red (loved the mask!), white and blue outfit together with “happy 4th message” were just perfect!

Allison, I absolutely loved the USA tank – you made wearing patriotic clothes cool!

Helen & Bill, those star-spangled sneakers rock, and I am going to try and source a pair!

Run Report: Virtual parkrun #10 – 27th June 2020

by Kerstin Pepper: Run Director

Can you believe we are in double digits already? Doesn't our barn look sad? 2020 has been a funny old year, to say the least, but I'm so glad that you continue to show up every week. Hopefully when we finally get back together, we all won't be too creaky!

At our 10th #notaparkrun, we had 34 fabulous parkrunners taking part. Of those, we saw 7 PBs, welcomed 2 First Timers, and a whopping 7 of you have now shown up every single week since we started this strange virtual business!

Let's celebrate each of you:

Personal Bests

Congratulations this week go to:

    Carlos Figueira - 26:35
Abby Ruelas - 27:36 (for her fastest ever 5k!)
    Helen Smith - 28:03
    Jordan Elder - 29:34
    Belinda Blackburn - 29:55
    Gayle Keenan - 31:51
    Amanda Nathan - 37:38

Amanda

Abby

First Timers

Both of our first timers this week were the supportive offspring of our seasoned veterans!
A very warm #notaparkrun welcome to Katie Metteer (daughter of Speedy Dan) and Caitlyn Keenan (pushing Mom Gayle to a PB this week!)

dankatie

Our Trusty Regulars

Our reliable few, who have shown up week after week, whatever the weather (and let's face it, 8 out of the last 10 Saturdays have been pretty darned wet and gloomy!) cannot go unmentioned! Huge kudos to the following #notparkrunners who have completed 10/10 virtual Perrigo parkruns:

Joanna Davis - of Melton Mowbray fame. We're so going to miss her when she goes back to "normal parkrun".
Michael Shiach - who gets up at the break of dawn to beat the Arizona heat each week.
Zena Hoegger - who not only ran despite it being daughter Lynzee's 21st birthday, but she also baked a mean Bakewell tart, making all our mouths water. Guess who's on baking duty for our big return party? Forewarned is forearmed, Zena!
Dean Faber - part of our core team, and a whizz with the chalk. We love our friendly, ever supportive Canadian!
Lynn Persse - Zena's faithful sister. This week should have been her 100th parkrun, and yet she remains frustratingly stuck at 86, despite running every single week. We feel for you, Lynn - you'll get there!!
Bill Schwabenland - of Eastside Runners fame, Bill not only runs or walks a #notaparkrun each week, but he often pops out again, once or twice on the same day. Just for kicks. And to make the rest of us look bad. Well done Bill - your dedication to your health and fitness is truly inspiring!

And Finally...

Thank you so much to all of you who shared photos this week: Michael with his glorious Arizona sunrise photos; Dan with his ever-smiling selfie; Aimee and Ryan for always getting it done together; Mike Williams's gorgeous photo of part of the Melton Mowbray parkrun course; and Nina for her Bridle Trails snap! I know I say it every week, but I really do love seeing what you are all up to during our little hiatus!

Some additional things to mention before the next #notaparkrun:

Masks are mandatory indoors and outdoors if you are unable to easily maintain a 6 foot distance from fellow park / trail users. Allison and I both wore a buff around our necks last week, which we pulled up over our nose and mouth whenever we saw another person coming towards us. This works well, and isn't at all disruptive to your run!

Our 11th #notaparkrun falls on July 4th. You KNOW how disappointed I am that we can't all celebrate together, Perrigo style! So...don't let me down folks! I want to see a sea of red, white and blue attire in your selfies, please!!! That's a lot of exclamation marks, for good reason!

Don't forget to support our friends at Cypress Coffee. They are open every day, the tables indoors and outside are all spaced well apart, and they have markings on the floor to keep everyone distant. All staff are wearing masks (and after Tuesday, you will be required to as well, per Gov Inslee's directive). Let's support this local business, so we can ensure they are still there for us when we finally get a "go" green light.

maskup

More importantly, please stay safe, stay healthy, and stay in touch.

Elbow bumps and air hugs to you all.

Toodle-pip,

Kerstin

Run Report: Virtual parkrun #9 – 20th June 2020

Birthday parkrun
by Kerstin Pepper: Event Director

birthday1year

You may or may not have realized this (!!), but Saturday's parkrun was our first BIRTHDAY parkrun!!
Whilst it wasn't the celebration we would have hoped for, we still found ways to mark the occasion. I traveled back from Winthrop so that we could finally have the run brief in front of our beloved red barn again. And of course, you knew we would never be able to resist a bouquet of balloons!

Our wonderful Perrigo parkrun elves were at it again (ahem, Dean Faber, ahem!), showing off some artistic flair on the trail:

And the Hoegger family (including poor Lynzee, fresh off the plane from Hawaii, and surviving on 24 hours without any sleep) REALLY showed up! Thank you, Zena, John, Chloe, Lynzee and Andrey, you guys are awesome!

It was also really great to see Aimee and Ryan Ashley (in person, at last!), who not only ran a great time on this rainy Saturday, but kindly brought along a sweet sign for us:

aimeeryan

I love our parkrun family - thank you everyone for helping us to make the most of this very unusual situation!

Back to the Important Stuff

This week, at our 9th #notaparkrun, we had a record 40 participants!

A very warm Perrigo welcome to our six First Timers:

Helen Smith - all the way from Sammamish WA. So glad you were able to recover from your ailments, and join us!
Neil Witherow - going by the pseudonym "fatbarsteward"...that took some decoding!! Not a first timer to Perrigo, but very fitting that Neil should join our birthday celebration, as he and wife Sue Witherow were there for our launch in 2019! Thanks to both of you for "dialing in", all the way from Croydon, UK! Neil is just 7 runs short of his 250 shirt - he must be almost as frustrated as our Kenny!
Yen Chi Le - joining us from Beaverton, Oregon.
Andrey Risukhin - also known as Chloe Hoegger's other half. Not a stranger to Perrigo parkrun, with 8 events under his belt, but this was his first #notaparkrun. Hope to "see" you again, Andrey!
Lynzee Hoegger - whose family arose at the crack of dawn to drive to the airport, collect her from her Hawaii flight, and headed straight to Perrigo Park to help us celebrate. In the rain. Outstanding! And just a little bit bonkers.

fatbarsteward

helen

We also saw six of you celebrating Personal Bests this week:

John Hoegger - working hard on his cadence recently, having been known for his gazelle style of running. It seems to be paying off - well done, John!
Kevin Sorensen - a PB of 21:52 for his third #notaparkrun.
Joanna Davis - our Melton Mowbray tourist has achieved a PB every single week. Lockdown clearly agrees with you, Joanna (or, not being stuck with the school run, and ferrying teenagers around all their activities)!
Simon Faber - another runner who seems to get better and better each week. Thanks for joining us again from Kelowna, Canada, Simon!
Belinda Blackburn - joining us from Tasmania, Australia, and once again making us green with envy with her beautiful photos. Congrats on a PB for your second #notaparkrun, Belinda!
Molly Jensen - not only achieved a PB at her third virtual parkrun, but braved all the snakes on the trail to get there. Actually, maybe it was the snakes that put the spring in her step this week! Shudder...

And I can't let another Groundhog go unmentioned! Congrats Dan Metteer on your second Groundhog in 9 short weeks. 18:58 was the time this week and last.

And finally...

Although we have now moved into Phase 2 in King County, the resultant relaxing of social distancing rules and lockdowns means that our vigilance is more important than ever. WA State is now under a mandatory face mask order, as of today - Friday 26th June. So, if you find yourself running in a park or a trail where it is hard to avoid other people, please do cover your face. I know it's not the most comfortable thing, running in a mask, but it is the responsible thing. The more responsible we all are, the sooner we can get back to our high fives and whoop whoops!!

We miss you, we love you all, and we will get through this together.
