Northside Beltline parkrun is cancelled on 8 August 2020: COVID-19 (Coronavirus)

#22 It finally stopped raining!

Regular attendance keeps going up, keep spreading the parkrun word for us!

We had lots of first timers this week, Hampton Mallis, Ed Nelder, Cyasha Brown and Randy Graeff ran their first ever parkruns with us, Roger Groves ran their second and we welcomed tourists from the UK and Germany.

The break in the rain inspired many of you to PBs, well done Nick, Wilson, Laura, Austin, Elliot, Emily, Katrina and David!

#20 IT’S SNOWING IN THE ATL!

18 brave individuals were lucky enough to experience Atlanta's "snow" to the fullest as it both started and ended during our run this week.

Our first timers this week were probably not phased by the weather given they were from Scotland and the North of England... welcome Craig, Douglas, Tim and Mary.

It was a great week too for our regulars with PBs from Philip, Jody, Helen, Renai, Aurelie, Nick and Jan. Clearly the locals deal pretty well with the cold too.

However, the real celebration was we had our 500th finisher!! Event director Sammie was 500th over the line after marshalling our second turnaround point, almost exactly a year after the core team first started talking about setting parkrun up in Atlanta. How long until we reach 1000?

Evidence it did actually snow...

#19 Welcome tourists

One of the great things about parkrun is all the visitors we get from around the world. This week we welcomed back Stephen Leeves from the UK, but were also excited to see our fastest finisher was a US tourist! John and Faith Yoder visited us from Terry Hershey parkrun in Texas. We've also had visitors from Florida recently and are excited to see who else we get as parkrun continues to grow in the US and worldwide. Welcome to our other newcomers this week Jason Smith, Philip Trainor and Aurelie De Malibran. Congrats to Tim, Nick, Robyn, Jessie, Nolan, Whitney, Heather and Catriona on your PBs this week! 84683804_199348774788981_4803859824666214400_o

#18 Our event director finally got to run!

It was great to see so many new faces at parkrun this week, welcome Peter, Helen, Nathan, Danielle, Aurora, Austin, Bill, Tim, Frances and Anna!

Also congratulations to Elizabeth, Katie, Elliot, Nick, Jessie, David and Alida for all achieving their personal bests. Their times ranged from 23:29 to 54:05, showing that it's not about who is the fastest at parkrun, it's you against only yourself!

One exciting thing this week is that we had a surprising name in the new runners list this week- Brett Clarence. If you've been to our parkrun before you'll likely recognise this name, Brett is one of the founding members of Northside Beltline parkrun and is often found to be giving the run briefing at the start of the event but believe it or not he hasn't had chance to take part yet. Thanks to our volunteers that finally happened this week! (Also congrats to our regular volunteer coordinator Zhanna who stepped in and took on her first role as run director to make this happen!)

#17 Big turnout

We had a number of returning runners and a whole lot of newcomers this week. Cold conditions, a total of 39 parkrunners and lots of PBs on the course. Andreas Heilman set his course PB at 17 minutes, 11 seconds, just one second off the course record! Our next two were veteran Jeff Willis and junior John Nilson, both with PBs for our course. Margaret Taylor, Jodie van Schoor and Katie Bierman were the first three among the women. Benn Hitchen did his 66th parkrun with us!  Thanks to all the volunteers; especially Andreas Heilman who finished his run quickly enough to be our scanner at the end, and Parker and Alida Hudson for bringing up the tail in the cold weather. Great outing all, and hope to see as many or more in coming weeks!
