Run report #2 -2/4/17

Run #2  success!

Some highlights from this week’s run:

-We’ve had 100 percent sunny days for our runs! Today’s weather was more seasonable, though, at almost 50 degrees colder than our other event. The wind chill was 4 degrees F at the event start (that’s -15 C!). We certainly have a hearty group in Ohio and- uh hum- Michigan!

-There were 21 participants who crossed the finish line, while others completed a partial course. Congratulations to all!

-Tim Gallagher, run director from the Livonia, MI, was parkrun tourist extraordinaire. Tim showed us tips to be comfortable in the cold as well as multiple ways for making the event - and the results process- go smoothly. He even brought his HEATER which was most appreciated! Thanks, Tim!

-The Sword family was there for gym class - kudos to the young ones for not only being up early on a Saturday morning but for being up and out in the cold, early on a Saturday morning!

-Another parkrun tourist, Jeff Zeha, was first runner in and set the new course record. Jeff hails from Indianapolis and is a frequent visitor to Mansfield. We expect to see Jeff and his family at future parkruns. Well done, Jeff!

- Sandy Hershner and Kelly Cropp are tied for age graded champions for the Mansfield parkrun event. They were part of a group incorporating the parkrun into a longer workout. The extra distance certainly didn’t hurt their age graded first place rankings. Colin Phillips of College Park, MD will need to return to defend his title!

- Leslie Casey retains the female course record holder.

-Many thanks to Nelson Shogren who again led the runners out on his bike (brrrr)  and served as course marshall.

-Amanda Stanfield gets top volunteer honors this week. Not only did she take care of the trail during the week to ensure it was cleared of debris and ice, she also graciously offered to be the tail runner at the last minute. Thanks, Amanda!

-Volunteers are the core of parkrun. Please consider volunteering at future events!

-Please wander around the Mansfield OH parkrun website for results (including latest results, history of run first finishers and age graded league), news, photos and more!

-Pictures can be found on the Mansfield OH parkrun facebook page as well as on Flickr at

See you next week!
