It's not every week that someone answers when we ask "are there any parkrun birthdays today?" at the run briefing. And when there are birthdays, a lot of times we know in advance. So it was a great surprise when our most faithful, loyal JPparkrun family (ok, they'red tied with the Cornelissen-Messinger clan) Letitia MEENAN called out that her husband Chris MEENAN was celebrating his one hundredth parkrun!
Congrats, Chris! The community here at parkrun is better for having you and your family at it every week. Of course, Chris wasn't the only one going around the pond on Saturday. We had 104 total people who ran, walked, and jogged through icy winds, 13 of whom were first timers (from Switzerland, the UK, and local environs!), and 9 of whom recorded personal bests.
Our volunteers also showed up in force. I have never seen Frozen, but I am vaguely aware that one of the lines in one of the songs is "the cold never bothered me anyway," and that seems very true of our parkrun family. Thanks to everyone who came out to make sure #102 happened:
Letitia MEENAN • Chris MEENAN • Jarlath MEENAN • Lance DOHERTY • Alex HALL • George BUTCHER • Pippa FORD • Cherie TURNER • Adele HARNETT • Jeanette ROBINSON • Dan FORWARD • Paul DZUREC • Robert STEEVES • Martin WALSH • Kent HIRSHBERG • Summer HARVEY • Arnost LOBEL • Emily HARRIS • Marie LOBLOVA • Jaime GONORA
We have some fantastic special events coming up for you soon!
On March 7th, parkruns worldwide will celebrate International Women's Day. Event Co-Director Chrissie CONNORS has a lot of great ideas to recognize and celebrate women on that day. We also have JPparkrun's second birthday at the end of March, followed a few weeks later by our third Boston Marathon weekend parkrun, our most popular day. Make sure you join us for one, two, or all three!
As always, follow us and our friends at Cambridge's Danehy Park parkrun on social media:
See you next Saturday,
