Fletcher’s Cove Parkrun #201 – the last of 2019!

For the last event of 2019, 67 runners and walkers enjoyed some winter sun alongside the Chesapeake & Ohio Canal, welcoming 19 first timers to the Fletcher's Cove Parkrun DC community.

3 of this new cohort managed to secure 1st, 2nd and 4th place, with our regular Manuel picking up a Bronze - although it's not a race and all abilities are welcome! It's worth noting that the average finish time for Parkruns globally continues to get slower, which is credit to the growth and diverse nature of these weekly events that appeal to all.

On display today were some shiny new Parkrun t-shirts, sported by Sedwyn and Nancy, in a red 50 and a black 100 respectively!  No doubt we'll see lots more runners achieving their own personal milestones in 2020!

We were entertained by Rob the Marshall with his 'moves' at the halfway point and first aid was on hand to look after one of our younger runners - thanks to those that stopped to help and do remember to look out for each other, especially at the busy start and finish points.

Thanks as always to the volunteers who contribute their time to enable these Parkruns to take place: this week Andres, Carter, Kai, Matt, Chris, Lisa, Rob, Paula, Daniel & Marcia added to the impressive total of 314 individuals who have volunteered at Fletcher's since the 1st Parkrun in January 2016.

It's easy to volunteer - just tick the box to sign up for the weekly emails on the Parkrun website, or add your name to the board on a Saturday morning - some roles allow you to walk or run, so grab a volunteer and ask if interested.

Remember, if keen, you can start your New Year off with a double on New Years Day with one of our partner events, just as long as you can make it (safely!) to Fletcher's for a 1030 start, or just enjoy a slightly longer lie in....

We'll be back to our regular 0900 Saturday morning slot from 4th January, so it's goodbye for now and a Happy New Year, with a few more photos from last week (thanks Kai!) to wrap up this decade:
