March 16th set a new total attendance record for the 28 parkrun locations in the US with 1,398 parkrunners plus 275 volunteers! At Fletcher’s Cove what a contribution we made, with our 3rd largest EVER attendance- 156 parkrunners and 20 volunteers! We had the most attendees and volunteers across the US parkrun locations- WOW!
We celebrated St. Patrick’s Day in style with an incredible feast provided by the Blue Duck Tavern at the Park Hyatt. The Park Hyatt team marshalled by Terry were outstanding! We had Kerrygold butter and cheese and T-shirts provided by the Omni Shoreham hotel and Irish Network DC.
The Irish poet WB Yeats wrote: ‘There are no strangers here; just friends you haven’t met yet’.
On Saturday we extended ‘céad míle fáilte’ (one hundred thousand welcomes) to 56 first timer friends and 23 as yet unidentified parkrunner friends! We had plenty of visitors from other parkruns too - 9 of whom visited for the first time! We also welcomed our cheerful and inspirational friends from the American Cancer Society’s ‘Making Strides Against Cancer’ walking group who added a splash of pink to our green parkrun.
Congratulations to Alice Bender and Alejandro Maldonado on their 50th parkruns - awesome achievement!
We had the luck of the Irish on our side. The conditions were beautiful, despite a headwind heading out to Philippe at the halfway point, but it was at our backs running home! We had 12 PBs and the sun shone enabling us to capture stunning photos taken by Michael and William - thanks guys!
An old Irish blessing sums up our St. Patrick’s day parkrun, and it says:
‘May the road rise to meet you,
may the wind be ever at your back.
May the sun shine warm upon your face,
and the rains fall soft upon your fields.
And until we meet again,
may God hold you in the palm of his hand’.
So until we meet again... same time, same place next Saturday!
