Run Report – Fletcher’s Cove parkrun #160

Run Report #160

A record-breaking day at Fletcher’s Cove, as we welcomed 17 first timers, roughly 40% of our field for the day! For a dozen of these, this was their first ever parkrun. What a wonderful surge of new registrants, completing the run with many a merry demeanor etched on their faces.

Geeta deserves a special mention, completing her first parkrun and adding some extra mileage or meterage to wit in her doubling back to the start to layer up against the morning breezy chill. And to Jackie and her Goal Diggers for their wondrous exuberant enthusiasm – you’ve tried it, you’ve tested it, you’ve conquered it, now all you need to do is keep coming back!

45 finishers - which happens to be just a fraction above the average attendance at the USA's 29 parkruns this week (43.9) - plus 3 barkrunnners. Tourists missing entirely today, and a number of the FC faithful also, lured away by the swagger of the rock ‘n roll marathon taking place in DC.

Hats off to this week’s volunteer cadre, ably marshaled by Sedwyn – Alice, Chris, Terry, Nancy, Alex, Rob - our gratitude to each of you.

Next week – come early, stay late, come with an appetite – it’s the St Paddy’s Day parkrun at Fletcher’s Cove, replete with Irish stew and other fanciful surprises. We will be playing host to our local Irish community and Embassy & Consulates of Ireland USA for a very special St. Patrick’s Day event...☘️ We are also that day partnering with the American Cancer Society and their Making Strides Against Breast Cancer Washington, DC initiative. Participants in this program will be walking the 5k with us. Celebrating all things Irish for St. Patrick’s Day, Irish stew and brown bread will be provided after the run, for all the participants, courtesy of the Blue Duck Tavern at the Park Hyatt Washington D.C. There will be a treasure chest of trinkets for the kids and the Omni Shoreham Hotel and Irish Network DC have donated T-shirts for participants. Not to be missed.

Lastly, as ever, we need you to step up and do your bit - why not get involved and volunteer? - click on the link to find out how...

and see you IN GREEN next Saturday....
