Ring in the New Year 2020 at Durham, NC parkrun

Durham, NC parkrun will again host an extra special parkrun on January first to help us get a year of fitness started off right. Besides more running in 2020, we could all use more sleep, so we will start running on this occasion at 10am, rather than the usual 8am start. Mark it on your calendars, get to bed right after the acorn drops, and we'll see you at 10am on January 1 at Southern Boundaries Park!

No Durham, NC parkrun for Thanksgiving 2019

Durham, NC parkrun will not be hosting a Thanksgiving event. Please refer to www.parkrun.us to see a list of events that will be participating, and consider doing some parkrun tourism or join in a local turkey trot to get some miles in before the feasting begins!

CANCELLED: Durham, NC parkrun on September 15

Due to Hurricane Florence and the forecasts for heavy rain, very strong winds, and downed trees and other storm debris, the safest plan seems to be cancelling this Saturday's parkrun. Please spread the word to parkrunners who you know are not on Facebook, and feel free to post this notification to any and all social media that you use.

Please check back before our September 22 event for updates on trail conditions. Be safe, friends!

Durham, NC parkrun Event #39 – March 22, 2014

You know that old saying, right? You wait all year for a 100-club runner to turn up, then two show up at the same time. That was the case this morning in Durham, NC, when Ron from Bushy Park and John from Banstead Woods joined us for a jaunt through Southern Boundaries Park and along the Third Fork Creek Trail. Even the wildlife were pleased to see the parkrun tourists with a deer practically throwing itself right into John's path.

With a temperature of 49°F and clouds eventually clearing to make way for a beautiful day, it was a vast improvement over some of the conditions we've faced in recent weeks. A number of regular parkrunners were either helping out or taking part in a local 25k race, so there was quite a small but diverse group at the starting line. In addition to our very well-traveled 100-clubbers, we had one first-timer who was brand new to parkrun. Welcome, Maria! We also saw Kevin finish with a new PR (well done!) and Dale just miss out on one by a measly 17 seconds (you'll get it next time, buddy).

Feast your eyes on some more stats below:

Men's placings:
John MATTHEWS (VM40-44) of 26.2 RRC, was first over the line in 19:23 - first appearance.

Durham, NC parkrun Event #38 – March 15, 2014

What a day for a parkrun! No ice, a temperature of 47°F (third warmest parkrun in over three months!), and some new faces sprinkled in with returning runners: it was a fab morning all around. With mostly sunny skies, a course free from ice and large puddles, and a bit more green to glimpse along the trail, we couldn't have asked for a prettier morning. It was even possible to think that the numerous woodpeckers, who could be heard in the tall trees surrounding our trail, were not simply looking for food but also creating their own cheer for runners galloping past. But the Canadian geese would not be outdone and honked their appreciation, too.

There were six first-timers (welcome!) among our 18 finishers, and three PRs: congrats to Dale, who also crossed the line first for the first time, Ray, and Elizabeth! We also managed to trick one of our first-timers into shortening his distance. James was a bit disappointed to realize he was only about 3k into the full run, but he still managed to finish fourth despite his minor detour.

Let's see about the rest of the stats:

Durham, NC parkrun Event #36 – March 1, 2014

With two big races happening locally this morning and temperatures just at freezing (When will you start sending us good weather news, William?), it was surprising to see a decent-sized crowd gather at the line for our 8:00 start. We also welcomed a range of first-timers: Kelli from Atlanta (she wants to take parkrun back there with her); Peter, who has not registered yet and ran with us once before but didn't quite get across the line; and a friend of John's who doesn't yet know if she wants to make us a regular thing. Welcome to all! Glad to meet two of you and to see one of you again!

This morning, we announced that our February parkrunner of the month is Elizabeth Buckley. Her perseverance has seen her turn out for some of our coldest days and nastiest conditions, and she keeps coming back for more. With three PRs already under her belt, the sky's the limit for this runner. Keep it up, Elizabeth, and enjoy the Bull City Running Co. gift certificate!
