Clermont Waterfront parkrun #325 February 1st, 2020

This weekend’s event totaled a lower than usual attendance because of heavy rain with chilly temperatures Saturday morning. Despite the adverse weather, 71 people still attended and achieved fantastic results. There were even 11 personal bests! Rain or shine, Clermont parkrunners are ready to tough it out!

Overseas visitor Simon Croft of Red Rose Road Runners managed to notch a first place finish and a new Clermont parkrun PB. With a time of 16:29, he also brought the following finishers (Nicholas Atkinson and Hicham Berriz) to near personal bests.

On the women’s side, Elizabeth Choi finished first in her first parkrun ever! Elizabeth is from winter garden runners club. It is great to see new local runners coming

Both Kay Melvin-Barnes and Tom Smith finished their 75th event as well. Kay volunteers regularly, and has helped out with a variety of positions including barcodes, finish tokens, marshals, and tail walker.  While competing in events herself, she has also managed to work in volunteering and is a great remainder that we always appreciate the help of our volunteers. Tom started Parkrun in 2016 and has steadily dropped his time from a 27:04 to a PB of 20:36 in November. Finally, Paul Whitehouse celebrated his 25 run this weekend in a time of 26:20. Clermont Waterfront Parkrun- 1-18-20

Clermont Waterfront parkrun
Event number 323
18th January 2020

This past Saturday was a very special parkrun, not only because of the many milestones achieved, but also because of the return of some very important people in the parkrun community. Karen and Tim Bowler are visiting from England and participated in this weekend’s event. But these two people are more than just participants in the Clermont Parkrun; in fact, they founded the event all the way back in 2013. They had to overcome strict regulations and went through a tremendous amount of planning in order to found the event that we all know and love. They had been inspired by the success of parkrun overseas, and because of their vision, they were able to set up one of the first and most successful parkrun events in the US. Without their tremendous efforts, Clermont Parkrun would not exist.

There were also many important milestones to celebrate. Congratulations to Anne Beninghof, who ran her 50th event this weekend. Not only has Anne shown dedication as a runner, but she is also a committed volunteer. “We can always count on Anne to be on-time, excited, and ready to help out. She is a fantastic volunteer and consistently does a great job,” said part-time run director Rissie Theiler. Another congratulations to East Ridge cross country coach Grant Mollett on finishing his 125th parkrun this Saturday. He has been bringing his high school runners out to parkrun for a few years and has made a great addition to the parkrun community. Shelly Linder from the Clermont Triathlon Club also completed her 75th event.

Even if you did not reach a milestone or a PR, there are still many other ways to be proud of your progress or commitment. Congratulations to every single runner on even coming out to run a 5k on the weekend with such a great attitude.

Clermont Waterfront parkrun Event number 322 11th January 2020

The cool winter weather that we have had lately did not seem to hold up for this weekend’s event. Temperatures were hot and humid, but that didn’t stop participants from coming in for record times and fantastic results. Out of the 167 participants, 19 completed the 3.1 mile course in a new personal record time. We also had an impressive 26 first timers.

Congratulations to Jill Swidler, who completed her 25th parkrun today. She started coming to parkrun in November of 2018, and has participated regularly ever since. Not only did she reach an impressive milestone this weekend, but she also dropped her second fastest time ever. This was the only milestone for this weekend, but many other runners are extremely close to reaching some. Also, congratulations to the multiple runners who reached 10 parkruns. This is a great show of commitment and hopefully leads to many more events in the future.

In spite of the muggy conditions, there were some speedy times on both the men’s and women’s side. Jarrod Shoemaker won the event with a 15:58, just dipping under 16 and coming in only 10 seconds off his personal record. He also pulled Luiz Prestes to a new PB of 16:06. On the female side, Maryann Protz also ran her new Clermont parkrun PB to finish first with a time of 20:36.

written by Kendyl Caldwell

After a successful New Year’s Day parkrun, we had yet another great showing of 183 participants this past Saturday to complete the second event of 2020. It was a little more humid than it has been lately, but the cool weather and beautiful course still made for enjoyable running conditions. Heading into 2020, parkrun Clermont has big goals for improving on the success they have already found. Part time run director Rissie Thieler says “I would like to add many new parkrunners from the community in 2020 and I would also like to have more of our current parkrunners volunteer.” If your goal for the new year is to try something new, get more active, or help out the community, Parkrun Clermont is the place to do it.

There were 18 new personal bests and 23 first timers. It is great to see people improving their results and to welcome so many new participants.

Congratulations to Anthony Whyld, who completed his 50th parkrun today! He began coming out in 2018, and has consistently shown up almost every weekend.
