Clermont Waterfront parkrun #325 February 1st, 2020

This weekend’s event totaled a lower than usual attendance because of heavy rain with chilly temperatures Saturday morning. Despite the adverse weather, 71 people still attended and achieved fantastic results. There were even 11 personal bests! An additional congratulations to the 9 participants who came out to the Clermont parkrun for the first time, we hope to see you next weekend with a bigger group and hopefully beautiful weather. Rain or shine, Clermont parkrunners are ready to tough it out!

Overseas visitor Simon Croft of Red Rose Road Runners managed to notch a first place finish and a new Clermont parkrun PB. With a time of 16:29, he also brought the following finishers (Nicholas Atkinson and Hicham Berriz) to near personal bests.

On the women’s side, Elizabeth Choi finished first in her first parkrun ever! Elizabeth is from winter garden runners club. It is great to see new local runners coming
out to participate. Congratulations to Sue Jewett on completing her 25th event. Sue was the only major milestone this weekend, but there are lots of people close to reaching one!

Clermont Waterfront parkrun
Event number 324
25th January 2020

Clermont Waterfront parkrun finished out the last of event of January on a high note. There were multiple milestones, many new personal bests, fast times, and some first timers. Hopefully the rest of the year will build off of the fantastic events we have already had in the first month. This week 111 people ran, jogged and walked the course, of whom 10 were first timers and 16 recorded new Personal Bests. Representatives of 10 different clubs took part.

Congratulations to Jerry Lykins on completing his 200th parkrun! Jerry has been attending parkrun since all the way back in 2013, and has been coming out regularly ever since. Both Kay Melvin-Barnes and Tom Smith finished their 75th event as well. Kay volunteers regularly, and has helped out with a variety of positions including barcodes, finish tokens, marshals, and tail walker.  While competing in events herself, she has also managed to work in volunteering and is a great remainder that we always appreciate the help of our volunteers. Tom started Parkrun in 2016 and has steadily dropped his time from a 27:04 to a PB of 20:36 in November. Finally, Paul Whitehouse celebrated his 25 run this weekend in a time of 26:20. Congratulations to all of these runners on their accomplishments and everyone else who came out to participate.

We hope to see you next weekend!

Clermont Waterfront parkrun Event number 318 December 21st 2019

The Christmas spirit was among all of the parkrunners this weekend as the 126 participants ran, jogged, and walked along the beautiful shores of Lake Minneola towards fantastic results and a great morning.  An impressive 24 people completed the course in their record time, and 10 new participants came out. It was cloudy and a chilly at first, but it ended up resulting in great running conditions and made it feel a little more like winter. There’s nothing better than celebrating the holidays (and it’s delicious treats) with the pride of an accomplished weekend behind you.

We were so happy to have Larry Hevner back participating after his fall a few weeks ago. He was able to complete his 250th event this weekend! Larry’s constant dedication both as a volunteer and runner continue to inspire everyone in the parkrun community.  The Stephen’s family completed their 50th parkrun all together this weekend, finishing all at just under 41 minutes. Their son, Caleb, is just 10 years old but has already run 50 events! Finally, Stephan Stebbins also finished his 50th parkrun in a time of 26:54.

During these cheery holiday times, it always means a lot to thank the volunteers who make parkrun happen. Without them, this event wouldn’t be able to take place. They always do a fantastic job of bringing a smile to everyone’s face.

Happy holidays from parkrun Clermont! We wish everyone a wonderful Christmas and meaningful time with family and friends.

We hope to see you this Saturday and at our special New Year's Day parkun !

Clermont Waterfront parkrun Event #287

25th May 2019

It was another great weekend at the Clermont waterfront parkrun with over 142 participants, 38 first timers, and 16 new personal bests.

Lots of overseas visitors, local running groups, schools, and local people looking for a good early-morning workout all contribute to the summertime’s high turnouts. One group that frequents parkrun regularly during the summer break is the East Ridge High School Cross Country team. “I encourage all my runners to come out as many times as they can in the summer. Its something they can look forward to each weekend in the summer and helps make sure they are capable of performing when it reaches the fall.  They’ve pretty much been coming out here since it started back in 2013. They really enjoy it, it’s very consistent, and there’s a lot of good runners for them to match up with,” says Coach Grant Mollett.

The first place male finisher this weekend was Jeremy Arguelles. “This was my return to parkrun after missing a few weeks and it was a good one,” said Jeremey. Despite the oppressive conditions, he said he “felt really strong during the run, and during the last mile too.” “I love this whole Clermont area I love the people in the area, and I like to push myself,”  he added. Second place was Kevin Grogan in a time of 18:49. Rounding out the top 3 was John Michael Batchelor in 19:12.

Cherise Cardwell snagged her first ever parkrun win this weekend, finishing with a time of 21:44. Second place was overseas visitor Catherine Batchelor in 22:32. The weather was a bit of a shock but she had a great time nonetheless; “It was good fun, but hard,” Catherine commented, “It was nice to have a flat route but the heat was difficult”. She will celebrate a great run and continue her vacation by spending the day at Magic Kingdom and Universal. These Orlando theme parks help attract the many European visitors that bring more numbers, new friends, and greater diversity to the Clermont waterfront parkrun.

This past Saturday, Clermont waterfront parkrunners hit the trails at the beautiful Lake Hiawatha Preserve. This week 86 people ran, jogged and walked the course, of whom 25 were first timers and 4 recorded new Personal Bests. Representatives of 10 different clubs took part.
