The first hint of fall arrived this week with a definite crispness to the morning breeze. After a particularly warm week with Bay Area temperatures reaching the 90s, it was a welcome bit of relief.
It was absolutely wonderful to see the familiar faces of the people who have joined us now at multiple events. We are so glad that you are enjoying Byxbee parkrun, so make sure to tell your friends and family. We are now running every week, all year round, rain, hail or shine! Kids and barkrunners, like Cisco here, are all welcome.
One of the most important principles of parkrun is the aim to remove the barriers that keep people from participating in regular exercise. That's why it's free, at the same location and the same time every week. It's why you only have to register once, and why you can use your barcode at any parkrun event around the USA, and even abroad. It's why the timing and result system is kept simple, so that anyone can volunteer at their local parkrun.
So let's talk milestones. At parkrun, instead of handing out trophies or medals, parkrunners are rewarded with a free shirt when they have finished 10 (for junior parkrunners), 50 or 100 parkruns. Volunteers who have helped out on 25 occasions also get a free shirt to wear with pride! There's a catch, you can only record one parkrun each week (so please don't go racing up Highway 101 to try and squeeze in a second run at Crissy Field!)
This week, we welcome Stuart Sheffield into the 50 club, and look forward to seeing him in his red 50 shirt soon! Stuart has run at 10 different parkruns, including Crissy Field in San Francisco, and Albert Park in Melbourne, Australia. He ran a PB this week and finished in 10th place - well done Stuart! We hope you continue to love parkrun!
Another major milestone for parkrun will be celebrated this coming Saturday, October 5th, as the Bushy parkrun, the very first parkrun, celebrates its 15th anniversary! We'll be celebrating by doing what we do best - having a parkrun! Invite a friend, family member or colleague to come and join in this Saturday or a 5km walk, jog or run. Don't forget your barcode!
