January 24th, 2015 Summary

Run Report for Event #1 Saturday 24th January 2015

Welcome to the first Run Report for Crissy Fields parkrun. As a visiting parkrun tourist I am honoured not only to have the responsibility of writing this, but also to have been one of the twenty runners to have participated in the inaugural event. Great praise should go to the Event Director Max Metcalfe for organising the latest addition to parkrun USA, and to volunteers Matthieu Scholler, Steve Snyder and Tom Williams without whom the first run would not have been as successful as it was.

A number of nationalities were represented at the first event, and runners started gathering outside the Beach Hut Café from 8.15am onwards. Of the twenty, nine were parkrun debutants, obviously having received the DFYB (Don’t Forget Your Barcode) instruction. The parkrun community welcomes Beth Simpson, Henri Proutt, Christopher Lo, Alexis Medina, Danica Chen, Noam Yuchtman, David Fowler, Brad Shambaugh and Andrew Kletzing and hope you enjoyed it enough to return again!

For an Englishman, the conditions could not have been better – sunshine, a slight breeze and a temperature of about 55 degrees – was this really January? Following the run briefing by Max Metcalfe, all runners set off in the direction of the Golden Gate Bridge with instructions regarding the course and where the marshals would be – the course is flat and fast!

The run to the finish

Michael Hiscott had the privilege of receiving token number 1 in a time of 15:22. This time sets a high standard for the course record – it is also the quickest time recorded within parkrun USA – congratulations Michael! Second home was Gareth Williams in a time of 19:02, with Noam Yuchtman seven seconds further back. First lady was the most experienced parkrunner taking part, Helen Williams running her 159th parkrun and she completed the course in 22:52. Chloe Ashcroft has previously run at South Manchester parkrun and finished in 23:59, with the third lady being Beth Simpson in 29:37.

Those going faster than they’ve been before…

As an inaugural run, everybody recorded personal bests for the course! A quick look further into the results page shows that six of the eleven who had previous parkrun experience, produced overall parkrun personal best times! Congratulations to Michael Hiscott, Ian Gillespie, David Haines, Dave Funnell, Kris Mitchener and David Duggan and hopefully everyone will return at some point in an attempt to improve their PB’s – and enjoy the scenery and hospitality again!

Simon O’Kane (22:15) was visiting from the UK and took the opportunity to attend – Simon runs mainly at Frimley Lodge parkrun and now has 38 runs to his name. Pete Stock ran his only other parkrun in 2010 at Bramhall, and now lives in San Francisco and will therefore have the opportunity to extend his parkrun experience!
